I have been really stressing about this day because I knew once it came - I'd be in countdown mode to this really crazy race. Sometimes I feel like its impossible but wasn't it Walt Disney himself that said - "It's kind of fun to do the impossible" - we'll see about fun when I am running miles in 17 but I'll take your word for it now. I've been toying with buying a treadmill for months. I've … [Read more...] about Day 1 Body Flow and Treadmills
Living the Life
I'm writing this recap as the month of June closes. While the weather has been great I haven't. After lowering my thyroid medicine 3 times now, I'm all out of sorts. I haven't had a lot of energy and it shows in the lack of run posts and journal entries. May started off pretty well. The first week of May my breathing was still off and I was stressing about the upcoming 17 miles the next … [Read more...] about May and June – Feeling bad and struggling
As I continue to climb the miles I realize I would greatly benefit from cross training. Time isn't the issue - its that fine line of overworking my body to where a flare is imminent. I thought I would start with Piyo. Piyo is a low impact workout that leverages your body weight to build strength. It's also what I consider a very active yoga type of workout. You will do yoga poses but instead … [Read more...] about April Training and the woes of cross training
March, what a different story than February. The month started out cold but I was determined to improve over last month. Taylor was in between contracts and so of course - it was better already just from that. The first week of March I finished all my scheduled runs. Zone 2 is definitely starting to feel more comfortable even if the weather isn't. The sun was out though and I could feel the … [Read more...] about March Training and Improvements
My first run of the month was good in general - minus the racing heart rate. My thyroid is all messed up again and I can feel it. Heart racing, hot flashes, no sleep - ugh. Therefore I decided to give my body a break and walk for my first "run" of the month. What's crazy is how high my heart rate was walking. Definitely going to share this with my endocrinologist. … [Read more...] about February Training, Setbacks and a Little Anxiety!
Happy Valentines Day! Today I was totally stressing about Dopey selling out before I got to register for it. In walks my Knight in Shining Armor and says - register Dopey for you and Taylor (my oldest and long distance running partner) and I'll do the 5k and 10k with you guys. Adding on a happy Valentines day he casually walks out as I run to get our credit card and then race around the house … [Read more...] about I’m Registered for Dopey!
We had a couple of all-consuming trips planned in January. We were in Disney for a long weekend over New Years which was amazing and definitely got me excited for the Dopey Challenge next year. We left as all the runners were arriving and you could feel the excitement with all of the signs, postings everywhere and those that were clearly there for race weekend. We also were in Austin … [Read more...] about January Progress
I didn't have the best year in health or in fitness. I worked out when I could, but consistency was unfortunately not happening. Not only was my health holding me back but I also failed to set a really great exciting big goal. I know from previous experience that when I set a crazy goal it motivates the hell out of me. Enter the anniversary year of the Dopey Challenge 2018. A Run Disney Race … [Read more...] about New Year Big Goals
Ok I have to admit I'm a complete planning geek. I love planners, journals, sketch books - you name it I've bought it. As I was starting to think about this next year I realized part of my problem was all these different books. I had a book for tracking fitness, a separate book for running, my phone, my wall calendar and a desk calendar/planner. Ugh no wonder I totally lost … [Read more...] about Planning ahead
Well - I had some health setbacks this year. My thyroid went all wonky again early in the year bringing with it about 15 extra pounds. It took months to feel normal from that swing once they upped my medication again. After that I was having intermittent severe stomach pains. After a ct scan, a visit with my regular doc, my lady doc and my rheumatologist all who didn't have any solid reason I … [Read more...] about 2016 A year in review
